Les Roquetes is located in the Nou Barris district of the city of Barcelona. It’s a very vivid and interesting neighborhood. Walking through its streets doesn’t make you feel like being in Catalonia, more like being in Latin America or maybe the Canary Islands or Andalusia.
Music and fiestas on the streets are very common and popular. The area is known to be the Andalusian neighborhood of Barcelona, although you’ll also meet lots of Latin Americans, Canarians, people from other parts of Spain and other immigrants (especially of Slavic and Arabic origin).
Tourism is almost non-existent in this district. People from other districts (and a few tourists) usually visit the neighborhood to see the Torre Baró.
The Torre Baró Castle was built on top of a hill in Collserola Natural Park from where you can enjoy a magnificent view over the whole city of Barcelona as well as the city of Badalona.
It also offers beautiful sunrises (at the seaside) and sunsets (at the mountainside).
The Castell de Torre Baró isn’t really a castle, though, as its name suggests. It was built in 1905 and was intended to become a hotel. However, at the beginning of the 20th century there was close to no public transport that connected the area to the city center and, therefore, the tower was never actually finished. Between 1989 and 2014 the Torre Baró was restored and it is now open to public and can be visited free of charge.
