2,5 hours South of Barcelona, in the province of Tarragona, you can find the tiny village of Margalef surrounded by conglomerate cliffs, mostly overhanging with an immense number of pockets. In fact, if you like pockets, you will absolutely love Margalef. For me, it’s one of the best and most fun climbing destination near Barcelona.
Sector Espadelles
Racó de Espadelles and Punta Espadelles are both sectors that are perfect during the winter. The route quality in both sectors is great. Punta Espadelles is mostly vertical climbing with lots of pockets and has sun in the mornings (till approx 2-3 pm) while Racó de Espadelles has more dynamic overhanging routes (but also a number of vertical routes) and sun all day.
